Jules Dassin's most restrained noir is a superb symphony of crime and detection in the Big Apple circa 1948. Barry Fitzgerald and Don Taylor track down miscreants Howard Duff and Ted de Corsia while producer Mark Hellinger serves as the voice of the city, the one with Eight Million Stories ... Great, great stuff with a ton of soon-to-be blacklisted talent in front of and behind the camera. Criterion.
