How Tasty Was My Little Frenchman
Nelson Pereira do Santos surprised the festival circuit with this unique drama about a French soldier's adventures in a Brazilian tribe circa 1594. He gets along well and is even given a wife ... but the chief schedules him to be cannibalized in "eight moons." Played by a group of entirely nude actors, the tribe represented in the film is said to be historically accurate. True to the philosophy of Brazilian Cinema Novo, the film carries a witty message about reverse cultural assimilation. Recommended. From New Yorker.
