Savant's
DVD Wish List 2007
1/01/07: Greetings! Savant's going way out on a limb here, but the temptation was just too strong. I've been thinking lately about what feature titles remain that I'd really want to see released on DVD, and started a list. The problem is, I keep thinking of more. Some are obvious but most are simply idiosyncratic favorites. 
I've left off titles already announced, like The Yakuza, The Gang's All Here and Angel Face, which are due early next year.
I'll be adding to this list as time goes on and notating any that actually are announced. -- as has already happened with Night of the Comet. It's rather humbling to look back at my "they'll never release these" rants from 2000 or so and realize that most everything desired then (and so little was released) has come to pass. There's still the errant classic Eurohorror film (The Horrible Doctor Hichcock, Blood and Roses) still missing, along with miracle pictures like Georges Franju's Judex. But can color, CinemaScope films like Hell and High Water, Garden of Evil, Bigger than Life and Wild River be that far away? Several have already been released in Region 2.
Note that I've limited the scope to feature films, as opposed to TV series and miniseries. I'm also only referring to Region One releases, and am discounting several from graymarket sources or familiar P.D. scrounge labels. Although it isn't a hard & fast rule, PAL transfers almost always speed up American films by 4%, an effect I can't stand unless absolutely unavoidable.
I'll be annotating the list as desired films are announced. Everybody makes movie lists, but this one has a good feeling about it. Perhaps some home video division will be on the fence about a title, see it here, and make the decision to .... let's not get too silly. But ya never know ....
