Monster Squad on DVD? Not from Synapse Films!
The rumors have been flying over the past few days that Synapse Films had acquired the rights to release Fred Dekker's 1987 fan-favorite, The Monster Squad on DVD later this year. Well, Don May and the boys over at Synapse make quick work of that rumor on their very own MySpace blog:
"Someone has taken it upon themselves to start some online rumor that Synapse Films has obtained the DVD rights to Fred Dekker's 1987 favorite THE MONSTER SQUAD. We wish! Sorry folks, but there's no truth to this rumor (and we don't know where it started). Last we heard, the rights were with Paramount, who don't really do licensing deals. We're big fans of MONSTER SQUAD and would love to do the DVD, but this is out of our hands and we need to set the matter straight before it gets out of control. Sorry folks, but you're just going to have to keep waiting.

While you're waiting, you can sign this online petition to get the movie on DVD. Who knows, maybe the right people will actually see it and get out there (or give us a call and let us do it!)

Thanks,

Your pals at Synapse Films"

It's a shame, really, because I'm sure Synapse would do an amazing job with this DVD release. Fans, nevertheless, have been waiting for The Monster Squad to get a proper DVD treatment for what seems like forever. It's easily become one of the most requested titles throughout the 'net and one that we, personally, can't wait to get our grubby little hands on. Here's hoping someone puts those film rights to good use and gives horror fans the DVD they've all been wanting so badly. One thing we now know for sure is that it certainly won't be Synapse.
