Synopsis:

Where do you begin? A confirmed bachelor and author on the subject (Cary Grant) has given up his bachelorhood for the married life. Just before he goes on his honeymoon he goes to visits his two loving aunts and slightly crazy uncle who today thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt! One thing leads to another and he finds that his two loving aunts have been killing lonely old men and burying them in the basement in an attempt to deliver them from loneliness and sorrow. Add to that a brother running from the law (Raymond Massey) who's been so botched up by his plastic surgeon, Dr. Einstein ( Peter Lorre) that the very mention of Boris Karloff sends him into a blind rage. All of this on his honeymoon eve and he hasn't even gotten to Niagara Falls yet.

Audio

The audio is presented in its original mono and does a great job portraying the film in its original format. Surprisingly enough, there was very little hiss and the audio was pretty clear for a film this old.

Video:

The video was presented in a full frame format in a crystal clear B&W transfer. I looked very closely and was unable to find any transfer errors of any kind! The images were clean and stark. The usual yellowing you see with some older films was non-existent. In all, this is an incredible transfer of a great film.

Extras:

The extras consist of cast information and that's about it. Didn't really expect much, so, I wasn't really disappointed.

Overall

Arsenic and Old Lace is a comic masterpiece that really needs no introduction, It's got a great deal of humor and Cary Grant has never been funnier. There's a wonderful feeling of warmth that will encompass you as you watch this particular film. It's a wonderful foray into the comic genius of yesteryear and it's really a great film that anybody can enjoy.
