The Show:

More Dino Thunder action in this third volume of shows from the latest Power Ranger series.  This DVD has some fun and exciting episodes which introduces several new zords, a new Ranger, and clears up some mysteries that have been around for several episodes.

The disc starts off with a good episode: Beneath the Surface.  Dr. Oliver finds an egg that he thinks holds a new dinozord, but Elsa manages to switch the real egg for a fake one.  She hatches the egg and releases Dimetrozord which, under her control, attacks the city.  Can the Rangers turn this enemy into an ally?

Inexplicably skipping the next episode in the series, the DVD launches into the three episode arc White Thunder.  It all starts when Elsa retrieves a dino-gem that Mesogog hid years ago.  While she is releasing the gem from its protective casing, Trent sees his step-father step through an Invisi-portal hidden in a corner of his house.  Trent follows and finds himself in Mesogog's fortress where he discovers the newly released dino-gem which bonds with the unsuspecting youth and turns him into the White Ranger.  Unfortunately, the gem is pure evil and turns Trent into an enemy of the Power Rangers.  Armed with laser-arrows and unbelievably fast, the Rangers are no match for this new threat.

A pair of dino-zord eggs are discovers by Dr. Oliver, in the next episode, but the White Ranger finds one of them too.  While the Rangers watch the Parasaurozord hatch and take control of it, the White Ranger hatches his egg, and releases the powerful Dragozord.

In the last episode of this story arc, the White Ranger launchs an attack against the Ranger with his new Dragozord.  Tommy calls forth the Stegozord but the evil ranger wrests control of the zord away from Oliver and uses it and the Dragozord to form a new Megazord.  The Rangers manage to escape, but only barely.  Later, the Red Ranger faces the White Ranger, mano-e-mano, but the tireless evil ranger gets the best of the good guy.  Mesogog arrives, and offers to team up with the White Ranger who refuses and attacks Mesogog's creatures instead. Then the powerful ranger attacks Tommy, and manages to encase him in a stone prison.

The last episode on the DVD, Truth or Consequences, Trent starts remembering the evil that he's done while he's been the White Ranger.  He starts to fight it when he turns into the White Ranger, but he's not strong enough to stop the change.  He fights the Rangers and defeats them easily once again.  He is getting ready to annihilate the Yellow Ranger but when he see's that it's Kira, a girl he has a crush on, he runs away.  Later, as Trent, he reveals his secret to Kira.  Can she and the other Power Ranger help save Trent, and what will happen to Dr. Oliver still encased in stone?

The DVD:

This DVD contains an ample five episodes.  While the other DVD in this series presented the episodes in order from the beginning, for some reason they skip a show on this disc.  The sixth show of the series, Ocean Alert, is missing.

The beginning and closing credits are shown once, at the beginning and ending of the disc, they are not shown between the episodes. The title of each show is left on, so it's very easy to tell where one episode ends and the next begins.

Audio:

The show is presented in surround sound. It sounds fairly average for a TV show. The levels of the rear speakers are pretty low, and are not used much. The explosions are not loud or booming, but the dialog is clear. There are English subtitles available.

Video:

Presented in full frame, as it was originally broadcast, the show looks all right. The entire disc had a slight grain to it, but it is not a major defect. The colors are not bright and vivid, nor are they muted. There is a fair amount of aliasing in the image of this disc, but it doesn't distract from the show.  An average presentation.

Extras:

This disc has extras similar to the other two DVDs in the series.  There are a series of *yawn* "Virtual Trading Cards." I have no idea how you are supposed to "trade" them. When you select this option on the extras menu, you are brought to a menu with a series of cards, six of which are highlighted and can be selected. Selecting a card enlarges it and shows you a looped scene of that Ranger or monster fighting. There are button below the scene that allows you to see their abilities, weapons and statistics. The text portion is very sparse often only a couple of words. I got the feeling that they wanted to include a low cost extra, and this is what they came up with.
There is also a masked person performing a kata in the Ninja Moves extra. The Sensei from Ninja Storm talks over it, (I have no idea why they didn't get Jason Frank to provide the narration) and you can select watching it in real time, or one move at a time. It didn't do much for me, and I can't really see anyone trying to ape the moves, which are pretty basic.

Final Thoughts:

Another good set of shows from this series.  I wish they hadn't skipped an episode, and hopefully they will include the lost episode on a future DVD.  The White Thunder series was a lot of fun with a cool new villain.  Fans of the Power Rangers will sure to enjoy this disc.  Recommended.
