Backstage Pass Volume 1
List Price: Unknown [Buy now and save at Amazon]
The Movie:
"Backstage Pass" is the latest concert DVD that Sony Music has released, and I really like what it looks like they've done with this release. Sony Music has released quite a few concert DVDs, and they've taken song clips from many of those releases and offer those here in a "sampler". Text screens available in the song selection menu can tell the viewer more about the actual release that the song comes from. The best part of this sampler is that it can be had for less than the price of an actual CD. The retail price is $8.97, and I found it for $5.98.
1. He Is, They Are – Harry Connick Jr.
2. We Didn't Start The Fire – Billy Joel.
3. Pride And Joy – Stevie Ray Vaughan.
4. Midnight Rider – The Allman Brothers Band .
5. Eternal Life – Jeff Buckley.
6. Texas Flood – Jimmie Vaughan.
7. Diamond In The Rough – Shawn Colvin.
8. Annie's Song – John Denver.
9. Come On Come On – Mary Chapin Carpenter.
10. Moonglow – Tony Bennett with k.d. Lang.
11. Power Of Love / Love Power – Luther Vandross.
12. Footloose – Kenny Loggins.
13. Danny Boy – Charlotte Church.
14. 1B – Appalachian Journey.
The DVD
AUDIO/VIDEO: Since this presentation apparently comes from different releases, the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound varies from song-to-song. Although all of the songs are presented in 5.1, some sound a bit smoother and more richly recorded than others; some sound rather flat, and some don't really use the surrounds, while other songs put them to fine use. But, none of the songs sounded bad at all, in fact, some of the audio presentations for the songs actually sounded quite good, such as Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire". The video quality also varies a bit from song to song, as some offer image quality that's rather soft and undefined, while most of the clips are sharp and show fine detail. It all depends on the original release.
MENUS:: Animated main menu with crowds in the background. Sub-menus are nicely presented with clips in the scene selection menu and further screens that tell more about the release the song clip came from.
EXTRAS:None, really - but for $5.98, I'm not complaining.
Final Thoughts: If you're a fan of the artists included, for somewhere around 6 or 7 dollars, this is pretty hard to pass up.
