MTV Uncensored: SI Swimsuit 2001

The Movie:

Swimsuit - uncensored? Ah, but with the MTV logo on the front of the title, things can only go so far, folks (although the women do wear some more than revealing outfits). What we do get here is the stories that we don't usually see in the magazine. Catfights (or as Seinfeld's Kramer would say ("ya ya ya Catfight!"), working with animals or other creatures that weren't terribly cooperative, psychotic photographers or things that didn't work out during the exotic locale shoots.

There's quite a few models featured, including one of my favorites, Josie Maran, Daniella Pestiova, Heidi Klum and many others. Photographers, models and people involved with the magazine talk about some of the more hilarious moments trying to accomplish a great picture, although, at the end of it, as one model says, "we're not trying to save the world here."

All in all, it's not too "uncensored", but it takes a fine look at the various models and doesn't take it all too seriously, providing not only a fairly interesting look at the making of the SI Swimsuit Issue, but providing some funny moments when things don't work.

The DVD

VIDEO: "Swimsuit 2001 Uncensored" is presented in its original full_frame aspect ratio. Sharpness and detail are generally very good; some scenes look a little soft, but the scenes with the models often contain such good detail that individual hairs on the models are often visible. It's not without some minor problems, though. Some shimmering does appear throughout the documentary and although infrequent, it was a little distracting when it does appear. Colors looked terrific - the deep, rich colors of the exotic locations came through wonderfully. Overall, a fine presentation of the material.

SOUND: The show is presented in Dolby 2.0. The interviews came through clearly and crisply and the background music (this is MTV, after all) sounded rich and full.

EXTRAS: Model Trivia Game, Location Map/Information as well as model bios/galleries.

Final Thoughts: An entertaining and fun little program, if nothing too "uncensored". Worth a look.
