Jessie (Anne Parillaud) is torn between two lives. At least, she thinks they are two lives, it could one, maybe none, who knows. In one life, she is a giddy newlywed, enjoying her honeymoon with her new husband (William Baldwin). Sounds good, right? Well, her second life sees her as a ruthless, calculating assasin, whose next target is a high profile businessman (William Baldwin). Wait a minute here, her husband in one life is her assasination victim in the next? Sucks to be him, at least in one of the lives. But which of the lives is reality, and which is a dream? Or are they both real, just manifesting at different times? If they are both dream lives, what is her real life like? Sadly, not even Jessie can seperate the two visions, and decide which of the lives she is leading. She has a troubled and violent past, and her husband may be cheating on her! Ouch! Are you confused? I hope so, because the movie wants you to be!

Shattered Image is a pretty confusing movie, to say the least. We're never quite sure which life is happening, and when they intersect, it's baffling at times. But this movie is not best summarized as a thriller, more like a suspensful art film. The visuals are well done, with excellent framing and camera work. The visual style alone is worth a rental, and the movie is very surreal in tone. The leads are well cast, and they have some highly electric chemistry. I enjoy movies with Parillaud in them, and I enjoyed this one as well. There's not much else to say about this movie, if you like confusing type films, with some stunning art direction, this is a natural pick. But anyone looking for a well conconcted suspense movie should give this a rent, and see how it clicks with them.

Shattered Image is presented full frame, but I suspect the image is all there, as no visible pan & scan can be found. The image itself is quite rich, with vibrant and full hues for the colors, but they are usually overshadowed by the more dominant darker tones in the film. But the dominance is intentional, the black levels are not overly dark. in fact, they are correct, with high detail visible in even the darkest of scenes. When not buried under the greys and blacks, the colors in this transfer almost fly off the screen, it's very stunning to see. No print damage can be seen, with only minor flecks and mars. Compression problems are non existent, nothing to worry about here.

The audio of Shattered Image is not in your face, but it does a nice job of weaving some nice audio textures from time to time. Subtle audio comes through perfectly, and keeps it's ambience quite nicely. The usually eerie music sounds great as well, and sets the tone for the scenes smoothly. Dialogue is crisp and always audible, never overpowered by the music or effects. The only extra included is the theatrical trailer. :(
