Review:
Best of the Chris Rock Show: Volume 2

Movie:
Best of the Chris Rock Show: Volume 2 is an almost hour long collection of parodies/sketches from the Chris Rock Show, which airs on HBO. The show, running strong since 1997, has won three Emmys and two Grammys. During this volume, Chris Rock tackles a variety of political and race-related issues, as well as a few other topics close to his heart. Some of these include:

-Finding an alternative to the Confederate Flag
-His audition tape to be a commentator on Monday Night Football
-A few "Mike Tyson for President" campaign ads
-His campaign to free Bobby Brown from prison
-An expose on racist toys
-The reality-based TV show "Halle Berry 911"
-Reparations owed by the government for slavery
-The educational video "How to Not Get Your @$$ Kicked by the Police"

Also included on the disc are twelve (29 minutes worth) "Taxi Driver Confessions," in which Chris Rock poses as a New York City cabbie who drives around and picks up real passengers and then messes with their heads.

I really enjoyed this 2nd Volume of the Chris Rock Show: I feel that he is one of the best comedic performers today, with a very energetic "in your face" style, in which no one is safe. Some of the sketches included lasted a bit long or fell slightly flat, but many of them were outrageously funny, especially the educational video. And Taxi Driver Confessions is just icing on the cake – seeing Chris Rock ask for a light for his bong while driving a fare around New York City is just too funny.

Picture:
Best of the Chris Rock Show: Vol. 2 and Taxi Driver Confessions are presented in 1.33:1 full screen, as they were originally presented on HBO. The transfer on the Chris Rock Show is great, though there is some slight grain present. Colors are natural and vibrant throughout with accurate flesh tones. Taxi Driver Confessions is divided up into three years (1998, 1999, and 2000), and the quality for the 1998 portion is a bit lacking, presumably because it was shot using hidden cameras. The 1999 and 2000 portions look much better, however.

Sound:
Best of the Chris Rock Show: Vol. 2 and Taxi Driver Confessions are presented in Dolby 2.0 Surround. The surrounds in the Chris Rock show are quite lively and create an energetic atmosphere, though they are fairly quiet in Taxi Driver Confessions. Dialogue throughout both is crisp and clean. No optional subtitles are included.

Extras:
Extras include a rather lengthy and informative bio for Chris Rock, a hidden promotional spot for Season 2 of the Chris Rock Show (accessed from highlighting the "2" on the main menu screen), and of course, Taxi Driver Confessions.

Summary:
Fans of Chris Rock should definitely give this DVD a look, as it contains quite a few hilarious sketches from his show and the disc is priced right at $19.99. Recommended!
