Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav (Uncensored)

Review:
Formerly a member of the rap group Public Enemy, Flavor Flav has somehow managed to start an entirely new career as a reality TV star, first with "The Surreal Life", then with "Strange Love" and then with the immensely popular - and somehow enjoyably trashy despite itself - "Flavor of Love". Ridiculous, over-the-top and unpredictable, Flavor Flav is a prime choice for a comedic roast, and that's what he gets here on this Comedy Central special.
There's been a lot of Comedy Central roasts in the past, and while they've been pretty funny, I've felt that some of the comedians in past roasts were taking it easy on the roastee, throwing softballs. Not so this time around, as this roast actually gets rather brutal at times (well, at least for a Comedy Central show), starting with Greg Giraldo's hit at Jimmy Kimmel (recovering from having his appendix removed): "Apparently you can get appendicitis from being overrated." Kimmel strikes back, ripping into the girls from the "Flavor of Love" show in the audience, only to have them flip him off and curse him out. Kimmel's fantastic response to the women, "Yes, that'll change the perceptions about you."
Jeffrey Ross has a few good jabs, including: "This is impossible! How do we embarass a crackhead who wears a viking helmet?" "You've set African-Americans back 20 years and Viking-Americans back 850 years." There's also another gem from Ross to Flav: "You sold out quicker than the IPhone." Carrot Top manages to get a few good jokes out (and a few mildly funny props - Oswald: "Do you make those props yourself, or do you have a workshop of unfunny elves?"), but Brigitte Nielsen falls flat and while I think Patton Oswald's hilarious, his act here's uneven.
One surprise is Snoop Dogg, who's actually pretty funny ("I tried to listen to one of Ice-T's songs on the way up here, but I didn't have a cassette player in my car.") Katt Williams hosts and does a fantastic job, standing out as one of the best roast hosts these programs have had. Overall, while there was a few minor down spots throughout this program, it was otherwise one of the best - if not the best - Comedy Central roasts I've seen.

The DVD
VIDEO: The show is presented in its original 1.33:1 full-frame aspect ratio by Paramount. Video quality is just fine, with crisp detail and only a bit of minor shimmering. Colors appeared bright and bold, with nice saturation and no smearing.
SOUND: The DVD presentation offers a crisp stereo soundtrack, with clear dialogue.
EXTRAS: There's a pre-show and post-show interview featurette included. We also get red carpet interviews hosted by another (see also the other "Roast" DVD featurettes) annoying interviewer (seriously, do they teach these people how to be annoying or is it just natural? - zing.) We also get a tour of Flav's trailer and some "Flav-cam" clips from behind-the-scenes.
Final Thoughts: Overall, while there was a few minor down spots throughout this program, it was otherwise one of the best - if not the best - Comedy Central roasts I've seen. The DVD presentation offers fine audio/video quality and a few good extras. Recommended.
