Dudley Do-Right

It's a very difficult task trying to translate a classic cartoon into a live action feature film. Many of the previous attempts have failed miserably, but nowhere near as miserably as Dudley Do-Right

Brandon Fraser reprises his clumsy and bumbling George of the Jungle like character in this painfully unfunny live action adaptation of the classic Jay Ward cartoon. At first it seemed like Dudley Do-Right could have been like George of The Jungle, with the goofy narrator and the cartoon like characters. But unlike George of the Jungle the story is fragmented, uninteresting and just poorly thought out.

Aside from a poor story, the films greatest failing is in how it bounces from trying to imitate the Dudley Do-Right cartoon to an amazingly bad slapstick routine which is extraordinarily forced and unfunny.

I found it very difficult to sit and watch good actors like Brandon Fraser, Alfred Molina, and Sarah Jessica Parker wade through such an awful film. Unfortunately, the film is bad in a way that isn't laughably bad, and I found myself nodding off. It didn't hold our daughter's attention either.

Given that the film is pretty bad, Universal did a really decent job with the picture and sound on the DVD. The picture was clear and crisp with good color fidelity. The sound was excellent with both a Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 audio track on the same disc.

Extras are pretty nonexistent on the DVD, but that is fine. After watching this horrible film, I wasn't very interested in seeing any more.

If you're thinking of getting Dudley Do-Right on DVD - don't! There are so many other films in this genre which are much more worth your time.
