Review:
Scooby-Doo's Original Mysteries

Movie:
With the feature film hitting theaters this summer, Warner is heavily promoting Scooby-Doo's previous adventures on video and DVD, many with price reductions. Original Mysteries, originally released on DVD in 2000, is one such title. Along with the $5 drop in MSRP, a $6.50 discount voucher is included for use towards seeing the Scooby-Doo movie in theaters.

Original Mysteries presents the pilot episode, What a Night for a Knight, and the first four episodes of the original 1969-1970 Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? series. These episodes are: Hassle in the Castle, A Clue for Scooby-Doo, Mine Your Own Business, and Decoy for a Dognapper.

While I was born almost a decade after Scooby-Doo originally premiered on TV, I still feel like I grew up with Scooby-Doo. The characters are still quite popular, judging from the amount of direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movies that come out every year. While not every episode in this collection is great, I enjoyed most of them. My favorites were What a Night for a Knight and Mine Your Own Business, while the only one I didn't care for was Decoy for a Dognapper. Anyone with younger kids who have never seen the original Scooby-Doo episodes, definitely pick up either this disc or Spookiest Tales and expose them to some classic cartoons. Even though it's been more than two years from its original release, I still remain hopeful that Warner will follow up this disc with another collection of classic episodes in order.

Picture:
The episodes are presented in their original 1.33:1 full frame ratios. The episodes, especially the pilot, frequently display marks and specks, with scratches and lines less common. Grain is present throughout, though not excessively. Despite some fading, colors are well saturated and blacks are solid.

Sound:
Each episode is presented in the original Dolby 1.0 Mono track in English, Spanish, or French. Dialogue throughout each episode is clean with no distortion that I detected. There are no optional subtitles.

Extras:
Extras include a music video, a four question trivia game, four recipes, and snippets from four songs from the Snack Tracks album.

Summary:
Most fans of Scooby-Doo have probably already added Original Mysteries to their collection, though if you haven't, the new MSRP of $19.98 and the discount voucher are two more incentives. Recommended.
