A few months back I saw a biographical TV movie about Gilda Radner called "Gilda Radner: It's Always Something". Jamie Gertz plays Gilda, and Tom Rooney plays Gene Wilder. It features her life, marriage to Gene, her work and her battle with cancer. I am no expert on Gildas life, but I have always liked her and after seeing this made-for-TV movie, I was much more interested in her and her marriage to Gene. The casting of this film would have paired him with Pryor, but Pryor's unavailability necessitated rewriting the part for Radner

The film "Hanky Panky" is somewhat forgettable, but seeing Gene and Gilda together was nice. I thoroughly enjoyed them in "The Woman in Red" which was made 2 years after "Hanky Panky". Gene and Gilda are always interesting to watch, even if not laugh-out-loud funny. The two of them could have been brilliant together in a well written romantic comedy, but this film was definitely not the best vehicle for showcasing their talents. They made another film together in 1986 called "Haunted Honeymoon". A bit of trivia: Gene and Gilda were married the same year that Hanky Panky was produced.

The story is about the misadventures of Michael Jordan (no, not that Michael Jordan) played by Gene Wilder and his love interest, Kate Hellman (played by Gilda Radner). Jordan finds himself running from the government and the police after being falsely accused of murdering Janet Dunn (played by Kathleen Quinlan) who asked him to mail a package containing a top secret computer tape. Jordan meets up with Hellman and they trek across the country to find the tape and get their lives back. The adventure takes them to many unlikely places and situations that really don't add up much except a lot of yawning by the audience.

The most interesting thing here of course is just watching Gene be his predictably crazy self in tense situations. Gildas character really isn't given much in the way of comedic material, so most of the weight here is put on Gene.

VIDEO: 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen. The colors are good but a bit muted and the picture is a bit soft. It's a very average looking transfer

AUDIO: Quality is fine, but is only a 2-channel stereo Dolby Digital track. Spanish, English and French subtitles are included.

MENUS: The menu designs are static and simple but easy to navigate.

BONUS MATERIALS: Three trailers are included; "Hanky Panky", "A League of Their Own", "and Manhatten Murder Mystery".

Final Thought: Hanky Panky did little in the way of entertaining me, but Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner made it bearable. If you're not a devoted fan of these two otherwise great talents then I would skip it.
