Holly's World: Seasons 1 & 2

Review:
After "The Girls Next Door", stars Bridget, Holly and Kendra went their own way, with Holly heading to Vegas to star in "Peep Show", which was a huge stretch for the former Playboy playmate. "Holly's World" is a spin-off series that follows Holly Madison and her friends/co-stars (including assistant Angel, co-star Josh and roommate Laura) as they navigate the bright lights of Vegas.
Nothing against Holly, but I'd been skeptical of the series ever since it was announced. On "Girls", Madison played it straight, never really showing a great deal of personality and often trying to act like more of an adult than her two co-stars. "Kendra" doesn't involve anyone else but Kendra and her husband, as given the former Playmate's personality, she manages to pull the show along. Thankfully "Holly's World" doesn't see Holly laugh as often, as I don't believe I've ever heard a more fake laugh - it sounds like someone who never learned how to laugh awkwardly trying to imitate those around them.
The plots are largely vanilla reality fare: Josh and Angel get in a huge, heated fight during a party (and I'm still not quite sure why); Holly takes a road trip with guest star Bridget (during which I thought I wished they'd done "Bridget's World" instead) and her new boyfriend; Josh thinks about leaving "Peep Show" and moving to Broadway and one episode that largely revolves around Holly's present to Angel: breast implants.
The series takes a turn Southbound when it introduces Jayde Nicole, former Playmate and "Hills" star. Sort of like a real-life version of Megan Fox's character from "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen" and twice as mean, Jayde continually offers up passive-aggressive put-downs of Holly and friends and looks as if she's continually ready for a catfight at all times. She's a (very) believable villain, but geez, the series had to bring together a bunch of supporting players to fill it out and now we get a villain? The series then starts to create subplots out of this, with one of Holly's friends going off with Jayde. Will she return to Holly's flock?
Meh.
I don't have anything particular strongly against the series: it's not even cotton candy reality TV as much as it it's maybe Marshmallow Peeps reality TV. The series as a whole isn't irritating - it just, well, is. It's a passable time-waster. I wasn't expecting Emmy award-winning TV, but even as reality shows go, there were times when my attention drifted.
Uncensored. Includes both seasons one and two. Oddly, the pilot (which includes a hilarious scene where Holly goes to the mayor's office to make suggestions and the mayor only looks irritated) is not included.
The DVD
VIDEO: The series is presented by MPI in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen. Images aren't crystal clear, but at least remain consistently bright and crisp. Colors have a nice pop, looking vivid and bold throughout much of the running time. No edge enhancement or other major concerns are seen. Overall, the presentation looks comparable to broadcast quality.
SOUND: "Holly's World" is presented in stereo and the audio offers clear dialogue and music.
EXTRAS: Deleted scenes.
Final Thoughts: "Holly's World" as a whole isn't irritating - it just, well, is. There's not enough to the series, and the addition of Jayde as a villain to create lowbrow drama is too much. Fans can seek a purchase, but those unfamiliar should pass.
