Real World - Las Vegas, The
Every year, MTV offers up another dose of their reality show called "The Real World." Their latest installment, located in Sin City, Las Vegas, has really pushed the edge as to what can and can't be shown on television. Right off the bat, two of the roommates started sleeping with each other, and eventually two other ones did as well. Mix in the constant temptations of gambling, a stressful job promoting parties at a club, and tons of alcohol at their fingertips, and you've got a recipe for naughty stuff that was just begging to be included in an uncensored DVD.
Unfortunately, what we're given is something called "The Real World You Never Saw: Confessions from Sin City." It's just a collection of things that really never made it to TV (farting, burping, useless banter, etc). Strangely enough, there's plenty of cussing throughout this feature, yet any instance of nudity is completely blurred out.
Having watched most of the Las Vegas season already, I was actually entertained by the feature. There are some funny moments, especially when Frank hangs up on his ex-girlfriend's mother after calling her at 7am. Unfortunately, because of it's extremely short length of 55 minutes, and the fact that there's nothing on it really worthwhile, the replay value is undeniably small.
Video:
Paramount presents "The Real World You Never Saw: Confessions from Sin City" in Full Frame 1.33:1. Everything looks better than it did on TV, as flesh tones, and the vivid colors of Las Vegas look great. Very few instances of grain, artifacting, or pixelation are present. Overall, I'm pleased with the job Paramount did here.
Audio:
The audio is presented here in Dolby 2.0. Everything sounds crisp and clear, and honestly, Dolby 5.1 would have been silly for this DVD.
Menus:
Interactive DVD menu offers the choices of "Play", Special Features", and "Scene Selection."
Extras:
The extras here are slim. First off, there is a "Cast Profile" for all seven of the roommates. They're pretty short, but nice to have anyways. Next, is a six-minute "House Tour" featurette hosted by roommates Frank and Brynn. And rounding things off are "Wrap-Around Bloopers." They last roughly a minute, and are not funny.
Final Thoughts:
This is a definite rental for fans of "The Real World". Like I said earlier, it's an enjoyable albeit short feature, with very little replay value, if any. I was disappointed at despite how it's touted as an uncensored DVD, there was still plenty of "video blurs" throughout.
