Another in the seemingly endless line of Spongebob Squarepants DVDs from Nickelodeon and Paramount Studios, Spongebob Goes Prehistoric presents another great selection of episodes that can be enjoyed over and over again, without commercial interruption (don't you just love TV shows on DVD?)!

Here's the rundown on what lurks beneath the menus of this latest cartoon compilation…

Spongebob BC (double length episode)

In this, the crown jewel episode of this collection, BC doesn't stand for Before Christ, it stands for Before Comedy. Our host Patchy the Pirate narrates the show as we travel back in time to meet the distant (or not so distant, as the case may be) relatives of Spongebob Squarepants, Patrick and Squidward. A long time ago, in what is now Bikini Bottom, Spongegar, Patar and Squog discover the wonders and dangers of fire. Not only does it burn when you touch it, but it can be useful when you want to roast marshmallows too!

Nature Pants

Spongebob quits his job at the Krusty Krab restaurant and ditches his family and friends in hopes of discovering a new life among the jellyfish population of Jellyfish Fields. When he arrives though, he finds out that it's not at all what he'd hope it would be and that there's nothing good to eat in the entire area. He also learns that jellyfish have a tendency to sting you. Eventually Patrick begins to miss his best friend and hopes to catch him and bring him back so that he can keep him forever in a jar.

Fools In April

Spongebob loves April Fools Day and celebrates it as any one of us would, by playing practical jokes on his friends. Eventually though, Squidward plays a joke on Spongebob that doesn't go over in quite the way that it should have and Spongebob fails to see the humor in the situation.

I'm With Stupid

When Spongebob's best friend Patrick learns that his parents are coming over, he quickly begins to worry that he'll look stupid in front of them. Being very concerned about appearances in front of his mom and dad, Patrick asks that Spongebob play along and help him out by pretending to look like an idiot in front of his parents, so that in turn, he'll look like the smart one.

Patty Hype

Krusty Krab employee Spongebob Squarepants embarks on a business venture of his own to sell his colored Krabby Patty crab cakes to the customers of the Krusty Krab. He sets up his stand, gets to work, and low and behold, the cash flow begins!

Squid On Strike

Assistant Manager of the Krusty Krab, Squidward, convinces Spongebob Squarepants that he should go on strike against Mr. Krabs and the restaurant because hey, there are power in numbers, right? Right. Anyway, it doesn't quite work out like Squidward had hoped, and the two of them find themselves fired.

The Great Snail Race

Squidward gets himself set up with an n honest to God purebred snail that goes by the name of Snelle. Why? So that he can enter Snelle into The Great Snail Race, of course! Spongebob trains Gary, his snail friend, as best he can so that they can beat Squidward and Snelle in the monumental occasion, but Patrick, not to be outdone, comes up with his own snail that he hopes to enter in the race. Unfortunately for Patrick though, this snail is a rock. Who will win the race? And how?

Plankton's Army

Twenty-five years ago, Plankton made his first attempt at stealing the secret Krabby Patty recipe. And what better way for Plankton to celebrate this anniversary than by making a long delayed second attempt? He puts together a modest sized army of hooligans to help him out and sets into motion his plan to acquire the recipe and rule Bikini Bottom.

Squilliam Returns

Squidward long lost high school rival Squilliam finds himself in Bikini Bottom so that he can brag to Squidward about how successful his life has been. Squidward, not to be outdone in the bragging rights department, tells Squilliam that he's the owner of a prestigious five-star restaurant. When Squilliam wants to see it, Squidward does what he can to turn the Krusty Krab into what he claims to have.

Seeing as this is a TV show, it makes sense that the image is presented in its original fullframe 1.33.1 format. Colors are bright and crisp and there isn't any print damage to speak of. There is a bit of edge enhancement and some shimmering effects in a few of the episodes, but other than that, these cartoons look pretty good and none of the video issues take your attention away from the on-screen action.
