Forum name: Pro-Bassoonist (Pro-B) I was raised in Europe in a family where music was held in high regard. During my childhood years I was fortunate enough to enjoy the freedom of choosing what I wanted to do and naturally music and film became my hobby. I started playing the piano at the age of five and by the time I finished high-school music gave me the opportunity to visit Italy, France, and England seeing some remarkable performances. Opera slowly became a favorite genre of mine which unfortunately did not mix well with my piano skills as I wanted to get involved with large orchestral groups. So, I quickly embraced the bassoon. My parents were easily the most open-minded people I have ever known. They encouraged my passion for film and music and as a result I entered the Music Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria working on my BM. By the early 90s I went back to Italy and decided that after I complete my degree work I will follow my family to the US. So, a few years later I found myself in the beautiful city of Seattle at a time when something special was growing roots-the alternative movement. At Indiana University* I met some remarkable friends and colleagues. It took me six years to complete my work there and now being back in the wonderful city of Chicago I enjoy the friendship of many people I met during my stay in the Hoosier State. ** (I am an Indiana University-Bloomington Alumni with a DM in Music, MM University of Idaho, BM Music Conservatory-Sofia)
