Madonna - Music
It's important to note how little you actually get on the Madonna DVD single for 'Music'. ALL that is on the DVD are 2 cuts of the same video, one only 18 SECONDS longer than the other. It's a very unsatisfying experience having this realization after expecting more.
The Music Video
As music videos go, this title track from Madonna's upcoming album is just OK. I suppose the video for 'Music' is meant to be a satire but it readily doesn't pull off the many jabs and rip offs from many popular rap videos. While highly stylized with 70's style titling and funky cartoon action sequences Music never really finds a sense of itself, nor does it really compliment the song well.
The Picture
Presented mostly in full frame (pretty expected for a music video), with some sections letterboxed, the picture of the Madonna DVD single is really it's strongest point. Clear deep colors and a nice sharp image make this video look really good.
The Sound
I was extremely disappointed that the audio for Music was only PCM Stereo I've had the opportunity to listen to a lot of Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS music lately and this pales in comparison. Music has strong influences from House and Dance Club music but the base of the song wasn't nearly as full or strong as it could have been if encoded in 5.1
The Extras
Extras?? What extras?? This DVD Single is absent any of the great features that would make it worth buying. The opportunities abound - I would have love to have seen a making the video segment, an audio commentary, heck even the song lyrics, but for some reason this DVD is devoid of any and all extras.
Final Thoughts
The Madonna DVD single for Music is a real disappointment, the 2 cuts of the same video are virtually identical and without 5.1 audio and any extra features, what you are really paying for here is just one single video and at 9.99 MSRP that's a pretty steep price.
