Sin: The Movie
Synopsis:
Based on an extremely popular video game, SIN: THE MOVIE, is the product of the great minds at ADV Films! Based in Earth's distant future, SIN revolves around several recent mysterious kidnappings that have occurred. Apparently, a humanoid hybrid of some kind is abducting children and murdering police officers left and right. At the heart of the mystery is SINTEK Industries. A multibillion dollar corporation with it's basis in genetic research and testing. SIN is taken from a biblical proverb in that the "sins of the father will be visited upon the children". Both, John Blade of the Police Force and Elyse, the daughter of SINTEK's founder will find that their father's sins will be visited upon them and is the theme of the film. This is top-notch anime that from the beginning to the end never lets up!
Audio:
The audio as presented is a fairly blistering 5.1 soundtrack that is booming from the start of the film to it's action packed climax! The sub is put to extremely good use and the front/rears are very well used with great left to right front to back effects. Additionally, the center was very clean and without any overlapping of the dialogue track with the score. The Japanese language track was incredibly rich and full and was for the most part, presented in the same fashion as the English language track. I preferred the Japanese track primarily because I don't think that the English language tracks do the films justice. They tend to sound really, for lack of a better term…hokey. The English language track was ok but still lacked the punch of the Japanese language track.
Video:
The video for SIN was presented in full frame with only the last end of the film-just before the end titles being presented in widescreen. The colors were rich and well saturated throughout the feature. There were a lot of reds throughout the film and none of them exhibited any bleeding whatsoever. I wasn't able to notice any transfer errors and was extremely pleased with the quality of the print.
Extras:
The extras on SIN are far more extras than the usual anime title. There's a behind the scenes interview with the crew responsible for bringing the film to life that lasts roughly 15-20 minutes. Additionally, there are bios of all the main characters and a production portfolio of roughly 10 shots from the film. A trailer for the film is included as well as trailers for other ADV films that will soon be released to DVD.
Overall:
This is the perfect blend of CGI and anime! The animation is first rate and the storyline is very well conceived and produced. Ninja Scroll set the standard for anime (IMHO) and SIN definitely follows well in its footsteps. While the animation is not as good, overall as Ninja Scroll, It's definitely good to be sure! Quite simply put, if you like anime that's well produced and with a good storyline, this is definitely a no-brainer! Highly recommended!
