RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON

Synopsis:

In 1952, Radar Men took the stage as the preeminent action serial of it's day. Commando Cody is a brilliant scientist and Sky marshal of the Universe who is determined to find out who is at the core of a mysterious string of atomic explosions that have devastated America's military installations and industrial centers. Commando Cody uses a jet powered flying suit a la The Rocketeer, a rocketship capable of interplanetary travel. In their quest for knowledge they encounter "moon people" who with their leader Retik want to conquer the Earth and all her inhabitants. Really, what more can I say about this serial. Given it's development in the 50's, it has serious atomic overtures and plays like a bad but enjoyable Sci-Fi film that has 12 installments! It's a lot like Pinky and the Brain and a lot like Plan 9 from Outer space! This is really an entertaining bit of fluff that works on a level of absurdity that's more laughable than anything else!

Audio:

The audio is admittedly horrible. The mono soundtrack is tinny and hollow at best. The whole of the action is contained in the fronts and exhibit no depth of field whatsoever. I have to admit, I wasn't really looking for a 5.1 stereo platform for a film this old. Truth be told, if you are interested in this collection, you're just glad that they're available .

Video:

The video is presented in it's original full frame Black & White with all the flecks, hairs and scratches you can think of! Given the poor likelihood of pristine source materials, I would think that this would be the best presentation you're going to find for this particular series. The images were not extremely sharp but they were definitely watchable and easy on the eyes.

Extras:

There are no extras on this disc.

Overall:

The 50's will always be known as the atomic age of films given the proliferation of atomic based films like: Godzilla,Gamera,Atom Age Vampire,Them and the list goes on . Radar Men from the moon is a very campy Ed Wood-Esque collection of Sci-Fi Hokum that's still pretty cool 40+ years later! Fan of the original run or casual observer, these films are definitely worth a look-see! Recommended!
