Now here's my take: "Channel X" bills itself as an underground hip hop cartoon. Dave Chapelle's show can be silly, but funny. "Da Ali G. Show" can be silly, but funny. "Channel X" is very silly, but not always funny. The premise is Fonz and Mike, two co-hosts to an underground talk show. Fonz and Mike interview famous people, including rapper Lil Kim and the godfather of soul James Brown Throughout the "show" the guys run skits and other variety acts. There are funny bits – "Hector" the Hispanic interviewer, interviewing George W. Bush for instance, but most of the stuff just isn't as funny!

"Channel X" tries to be humorous satire sprinkling political references throughout. In addition to the Bush piece, there is also a bit with Malcolm X and Bill Clinton. Most everything is funny, not side-splitting stuff, but definitely humorous. I wouldn't be surprised to see this show pop up on some cable channel somewhere. The premise of the show is unique and fresh, it just needs a bit of fine tuning.

How Does it Look and Sound? - This is where this DVD suffers. The video presentation is full frame 4:3, which is the original aspect for this movie. The images are very soft and don't look as good as a high def signal. All of the video is animated action, but that doesn't seem to help. The sound is all limited to the left and right fronts – no separate channel mix. There is background hip hop music playing throughout the entire show, but the only speaker that will feel it is going to be your subwoofer. The music is nice, but would have sounded a lot better with a better mix.

What are the Extras? - The bonus materials are labeled "Fonz and Mike Adventures", but they are essentially the same type of stuff you'll find on the main disc. There are four extra animated clips and they are on par with the main disc content. I'm not sure why this just wasn't interspersed with the rest of it.

Final Thoughts - While I must admit that I was initially turned off to this DVD, after a few times watching the silly humor becomes more palatable. Don't watch it with kids around, as there is a ton of adult language and situations. It's not the funniest thing I've ever seen, but it is a fresh idea that tries to take some bold steps. Make sure you rent it and check it out.
