An absolutely awful film version of the old TV show that no one from this generation remembers, this is a completely unwatchable mess of a film. Three fine actors(Claire Danes, Giovanni Ribisi, Omar Epps) are completely lost in poor performances of poor material. This script is really the bottom of the bottom, bland and completely original, I really don't see how anyone could have possibly believed that this material could make a coherent movie. The three play a mod squad under the command of a chief played by Dennis Farina. Soon, they're in the midst of some sort of police corruption scandal.

The movie is edited to the point of oblivion. It tries to look as cool as the characters try to act and fails completely on both counts. It tries to be funny and...it fails. It's safe to say that I didn't think there was one successful aspect of this entire film. Claire Danes needs to get a new agent, because this certainly is a film so bad I doubt a career can recover from it. This is easily one of the year's worst films and it amazes me that MGM could think that teens would fall for a film this bad. Of course, I thought the same thing with their version of "Carrie 2"(my other choice for worst film of the year), which failed as well.

The DVD VIDEO: Solid(with a few small exceptions) anamorphic 1.85:1 image. Colors are pure, vibrant, nicely rendered and well-saturated. All the reds and neons of the clubs look very strong and there's no instances of color bleeding. Detail is consistenly quite good as well. The sort of bleak look of the police station and the outdoor California exteriors look clear and clean. Shadow detail is nicely rendered and flesh tones are accurate and natural throughout. The only place that it runs into problems are slight traces of pixelization in some of the darker scenes, but nothing terribly distracting.
SOUND: A non-stop array of popular music. Although I wish the songs would be quiet for a moment at times, they sound consistently good here, clear and crisp- especially great during the club scenes where the songs pump from all around. Surrounds are used effectively on occasion and dialogue is fine throughout, sounding clean and never compressed.

MENUS: Nicely animated main menus with the soundtrack playing behind them.

EXTRAS:The Trailer.

Final Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and don't go anywhere near this movie. It's a case of bad movie gets disc of nice quality.
