Proof
Proof is an excellent Australian comedy/drama about a blind photographer. Other than the fact that it is a very well made and enjoyable film it is today more famously known as an early film by both Hugo Weaving and Russell Crowe.
Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse the film deals with Martin (Hugo Weaving) a blind man who is befriended by a young dishwasher Andy (Russell Crowe). Their friendship is based on trust. They work out a deal where Martin takes photos of the world around him and Andy describes the photos to him so he knows what his world 'looks' like.
But then Martin's manipulative housekeeper Celia (Geneviève Picot) comes between them. Andy falls for her and then he gets caught in a situation where the trusted friendship he has with Martin is tested.
The title 'Proof' refers to proof sheets used in photography as well as verification of the truth. The acting is excellent, the story is unique and at 89 minutes it's a short but very gratifying movie.
Video:
The DVD is presented in an aspect ratio of 1.66:1. It looks very good.
Extras:
There are two commentary tracks. One by Jocelyn Moorhouse and the other by Hugo Weaving. It would have been cool to have them both do it together but both are still very good and informative.
