That Man Bolt
Fred Williamson is Jefferson Bolt, an international courier who specializes in beautiful women and kicking ass. Bolt is a jetsetter, not unlike James Bond, and That Man Bolt is not unlike the many James Bond rip-offs that popped up mainly in the mid to late sixties. In that regard, this film is nearly ten years behind the times. In another regard, it isn't nearly as good as James Coburn's Flint films, or some of the other Bond wannabes we saw over the years.
Bolt is hired to carry one million dollars from Hong Kong to Mexico City. From that point on things get so confusing, you will have to watch the film more than once to figure out what is going on. The only problem is, this nonsense tends to be…how shall I say this?…casually paced? Excitement deficient? How about "plain old boring"? Bolt jets from one exciting city to the other, but you will pretty much feel like you got lost in Vegas, which is where some of the bodies start piling up. There are fights, people get killed, and some of the other requisite trappings of exploitation cinema, but none of it is enough to make the film too compelling or entertaining. More than anything, the film, which runs too long, tries to be more than it can given its limited budget.
Fred Williamson does a decent job, and carries himself with all the ultra cool swagger we could hope for. But we could also hope that the swagger would be swagged in a film better than this one. Don't get me wrong, That Man Bolt isn't the worst film you're likely to see starring the Hammer, (not so long as there are prints of his Italian films still in existence), but it sure isn't his best either.
