Pi
The Movie: Pi the movie is a very intriguing look into the world of chaos theory and mathematics. Directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Sean Gullette as a mathematician searching for a pattern in the stock market, this movie shows the torment that a genius can go through and the search for the meaning of life. This is a really hard movie to review because it's not your run-of-the mill movie. It is an independent black/white film produced for only $60,000 and if you have the chance to see it, I would recommend it. It is very thought-provoking and intriguing.
The Picture: The picture is as good as can be expected from a black and white movie. The picture was intentionally shot in a grainy format, so it's really hard to review the picture of this disc.
The Sound: The sound, presented in Dolby 2.0 is just as I remember it from the theater. The dialogue is clear and the eclectic soundtrack stands out when it is supposed to.
The Extras: The extras are great on this disc. Two commentaries are great and the deleted scenes can be watched both with and without commentary by the director and main actor. Also, you can watch 2 different trailers along with a music video once again showcasing the interesting soundtrack. Also, there is a montage of behind the scenes footage with comentary once again from the director and the Sean (main actor).
Conclusion: In conclusion, this DVD is pretty interesting. Not many people really liked this movie, it is pretty strange and eclectic, but I enjoyed it as I enjoy the DVD also. There are ample extras avilable which add to the value of this DVD - overall a nice DVD and a valued part of my collection.
