WWE - Viva Las Divas
Set to coincide with the release of a companion magazine, the latest WWE Diva DVD, "Viva Las Divas", joins the sexy ladies in the Grand Cozumel and the Grand Xcaret in Mexico. Favorite Divas Ivory, Victoria and Trish Stratus are joined this time around with a whole new crop of Divas as they shoot their individual layouts. The main feature runs an hour and eighteen minutes, and they fly by pretty quick. As usual, the WWE has put together a superb package featuring Divas from both brands (and thankfully, Ivory makes an appearance too!).
However, I really wish Vince would put as much effort into a REAL woman's division as he does for these DVD releases, since the majority of the Divas featured on this disc can't wrestle. But, based on the events that have taken (and are currently taking) place on the show, i'm thinking it's not that important of an issue. In fact, they're prepping yet another Diva contest to eat up valuable time on Raw during upcoming weeks. I realize i'm on a soapbox now, but this extras on this disc are a good example of why I think Raw is (or used to be) the superior brand compared to SmackDown!. The majority of the "matches" from SmackDown! are things like "Halloween Costume Contest" and "Pilgrim Indian Match". Don't get me wrong, I AM a hot blooded male that doesn't mind watching a "Lingerie Pillow Fight" every once in a while, but Raw used to excel because they had extremely attractive Divas who could, coincidently, wrestle too. Granted, they might not be anywhere near as technical as Chris Benoit, but they'd be pretty damn close. Christy Hemme and the rest of the nuDivas possess little to none wrestling ability or mic skills.
Okay, i'm done. I bring this up because watching the Women's Championship Match in the extras touched a nerve and made me realize how few Divas there are that capable of performing in the ring. (For the record, as of this writing, both Lita and Trish are currently recovering from injuries.) Regardless, i'm sure the purpose of the main feature of this disc is not to impress the viewer with the Diva's wrestling skill (or lack of). No, it's to feature extremely sexy ladies in gorgeous locales while wearing next to nothing. In this regard, this disc totally succeeds. Out of all the Diva segments, I thought Lillian's was the most interesting, and since she's basically a ring announcer or singer of the National Anthem on occasion (one performance is included in the extras), I didn't even consider her a Diva. I also enjoyed Trish (she's my favorite Diva and has a wicked sense of humour) and Ivory's segments too (though they really should get her back in the ring).
The main feature is divided into 26 chapters:

Since the main feature has a paltry one hour running time, the WWE has packed a TREMENDOUS amount of extras. I think it's a mandate that each DVD release contain, at the very minimum, two and a half hours of material - which definitely gives the fans more bang for their buck. All the Extras on this disc are, of course, Diva related. The chapters are as follows:
- Summer Breakout Bikini Contest
- Lita & Kane's Wedding
- Dance Performance [Molly Holly vs. Stacy Keibler]
- School Girl Match [Torrie Wilson & Dawn Marie vs. Mae Young & Moolah]
- Halloween Costume Contest [Torrie Wilson vs. Dawn Marie]
- Lingerie Pillow Fight [Stacy Keibler vs. Christy Hemme]
- Pilgrim Indian Match [Dawn Marie vs. Miss Jackie]
- Fashion Show
- Limbo Contest
- WWE Woman's Championship Match [Trish vs. Lita]
- Lingerie Pillow Fight [Christy Hemme vs. Maria Kanellis]
- Trish & Christian Raw Magazine Cover Shoot
- Victoria Raw Magazine Cover Shoot
- Stacy & Torrie Video Game Commerical
- Dawn Marie, Torrie & Miss Jackie SmackDown! Magazine Cover Shoot
- Stacy Keibler's Babe Of the Year Shoot
- Ivory and Godzilla
- Trish's advice to new girls
- Lita On Lilian
- Stacy's Mirror
- Lilian On Rock
- THQ Commercial SmackDown! vs. Raw "Dueling Divas" - A slightly extended version of the SD! vs. Raw videogame commercial featuring Torrie Wilson & Stacy Kiebler. A weak attempt to spoof the already played out Miller Beer catfight commercial.
- Monday Night Football Spoof - This bit, starring Trish Stratus and Shelton Benjamin, is an amusing satire of the whole MNF "controversy" with the WWE's unique spin on things. A shame this kind of writing can't find its way into some of the wrestling storylines.
- Lilian Garcia Sings National Anthem
Video: For the amount of content on the disc, this was an fairly good transfer. It's presented in the full frame 1.33:1 ratio and the majority of the time, the picture is sharp. Colors are bright and there were only slight instances of compression artifacts.
Audio: The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound was crystal clear and enveloped my living room while I was watching it. I especially enjoyed the soothing sounds of the shore during the menus.
Conclusion: WWE stands for "World Wrestling Entertainment". While I might have problems concerning the second "W" (Wrestling) where the Divas are concerned, I have no problem with the "Entertainment" part. As with past Diva releases, this one does what it's supposed to - showcase the Divas in exotic locales wearing sexy outfits. As usual, there are a plethora of extras that showcase significant Diva appearances on both brands. While I do wish the main feature had been slightly longer (particularly Ivory's segment), I was thoroughly satisfied with this release and have no problem giving it a Highly Recommended rating.
