Infinity's Child
List Price: Unknown [Buy now and save at Amazon]
Features:
DVD-Video: Interviews with the Artists, Trailers, Background information on the Phleig and an Artist's Gallery. Dolby Digital 5.1 Soundtrack. DVD-ROM: Bryce 4 Demo and 12 of the actual animated scenes. Movie Length: 40 Minutes
The Movie: Infinity's Child is the collaboration of 1 director and three artists. A CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) movie, it is about the finding of one of their exploration ships that had been thought lost, adrift with the crew missing. The log of the ship shows that the crew found the mythical "Gateway World", a planet believed to be the bridge to a "shift in consciousness", an entry point into realities beyond their own.
Picture and Sound:
The story is told not for words, except for the prologue and epilogue, but rather with images and sounds. The images and sounds of this movie do a good job at telling the story, as they explore the gateway world and the realities beyond it. The graphics are very well rendered, and the image quality is excellent. All graphics were rendered on Pentium IIIs provided to them by Intel. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is excellent - it is very well done, and one of the most impressive examples of surround sound I can think of.
The Extras:
The DVD-Video extras, while interesting, are not spectactular. It's nice to be able to hear from the individual artists how they accomplished what they did from 4 different places, and how it all came together. Three trailers are included on the disc. As for DVD-ROM extras, I could not test them, but they should be very interesting to those interested in CGI/Computer Graphics.
Conclusion:
An excellent example of the possibilities of CGI movies, Infinity's Child is very unique, and as such is not for everyone. Buy it if you want to watch it a lot, otherwise, rent it just to see what can be done.
