Synopsis: Champion City, the Home of none other than the great, Captain Amazing! fighter of crime & injustice everywhere! Able to leap tall buildings in a single...oops. Wrong guy! Anyway, Captain Amazing(Greg Kinnear) is a superhero in need of a super villian to fight. He's vanquished all of his previous opponents & is hungry for more commercial endoresements, the kind that come from fighting really, really, really bad guys! The baddest bad guy to ever hit Champion City is the Disco lovin' Mad genius/scientist/arch nemesis Cassanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush). Currently imprisoned for life, Frankenstein is out of the bad guy ball game. That is until he is granted a pardon so that Captain Amazing can do battle with him once more, vanquishing him & securing more commercial endorsements for himself! All would have gone well had Captain Amazing really been well...amazing. He's captured by Cassanova Frankenstein & there is no one to come to his rescue. Enter our heroes! The shoveler(William H. Macy) ,No one can shovel quite like him! The Blue Raja( Hank Azaria), master of the arcane art of fork throwing & astonishingly enough not a drop of blue to be found anywhere on him!, Invisible boy (Kel Mitchell),he has the gift of invisibility, only when no one is watching! The Spleen (Paul Reubens)poisonous, gaseous expulsions from his nether regions is his specialty, The Sphinx (Wes Studi) can cut guns in half with his mind & speaks in constant inane less than witty banter! The Bowler (Janeane Garofalo) She weilds the power of the bowling ball, complete with her dead father's skull encased therein and lastly, Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller) His power is that of becoming very, very, very angry! Together, they become, The Mystery Men! On a mission to save the world from injustice & fighting crime everywhere! When the world need heroes, the Mystery Men will answer the call! Even if the world doesn't want them.

Audio: 5.1 dolby digital surround that truly delivers.

Video: An impeccable Anamorphic widescreen transfer! The images are clean & crisp. The colors are vibrant & intense. Really great transfer!

Extras: Spotlight on location, deleted scenes, music highlights, trailers, Origin of the Mystery Men Comic Book series, Director's commentary.

Overall: I missed this one in the theaters but knew it would be good. I was more than right, this movie rocks! The film is a rioutous sendoff of the superhero genre that is not only written & acted very well, it's also presented in an incredible way. It's got action, humor, introspection & a smidge of romance. All of the characters are exceptionally well defined & I really hated that the movie would end. Way cool film, excellent transfer, audio, extras worth every penny! Keep an eye out for Eddie Izzard. He's one of Frankensteins' henchmen. An enormously funny comedian, Izzard is just not put too good use in the film. That is my only problem with Mystery Men. Good renter or purchase!
