Big Daddy

Review by Jeremy Kleinman | posted January 5, 2000 | E-mail the Author
The Movie:
This film offers everything one would expect from an Adam Sandler film- high quality, low brow humor. This film builds on the nice guy sentimentality that Sandler displayed in "The Wedding Singer" as he tackles parenthood, but with many Hooters references along the way. As a bonus,it's a fun challenge to try and pick out all the actors from Sandler's previous movies. The film has a lot of laughs and is worth checking out.

The Picture:
Columbia Tri-Star did a great job with the film transfer which like many of their films is enhanced for widescreen TV's. Big Daddy really does look sharp on DVD with great color with bright clear hues.

The Sound:
The sound like the picture is clear but the movie really doesn't show off the sound much outside of a few songs, nothing really memorable.

The Extras:
The DVD has two music videos, Sheryl Crow's take on Guns 'n Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine" and Garbage's "When I Grow Up" which is a treat. There is also an HBO first look behind-the-scenes documentary with cast interviews, which ironically was shot at Hooters, it's not much more of a recap of the film and generally disappointing. Other than that, t two trailers for Big Daddy, trailers for Go, Dick, and Ghostbusters (15th Ann. Ed)and talent files.

Conclusion:
Unless you are a die hard Adam Sandler fan and are building up your Sandler DVD collection, Big Daddy is probably a DVD you should rent rather than buy. It is an entertaining movie but really doesn't have what it takes to stand up under repeat viewing.
