The Movie: This 2 disc set features 6 episodes. Yes - only 6 - Fox no doubt decided to make it 2 discs rather than a flipper to raise costs when they could have easily added 2 more episodes. The episodes they picked all have a common theme rather than in chronological order which also upsets me. The upcoming X-Files box set will contain all of Season 1 in one box set and is obviously the way to go rather than fragmenting the season. These 6 episodes deal with [disc 1] Relationships and Dating and [disc 2] Therapy. The episodes fit into their respective categories, but aren't in order and although it doesn't through you off much, just doesn't make sense.

It is nice however to look back at these six episodes and see the earlier ones again (I've seen almost all of them). I especially liked watching the Pilot episode again because it really set up the basis of each character. And, as always, Ally and the infamous dancing baby are fun to watch also.

The Picture: The episodes feature a 1.33:1 aspect ratio, similar to the TV, so there's no place to fault Fox there and the transfer is good. No real errors that stand out or problems.

The Sound: The sound is good, Dolby Surround as featured on TV. Nothing really special - it's only a TV series.

The Extras: The extras are the real downside of this disc (aside from the episodes being out of order and only 6 on 2 discs). Nothing really special in the music video (Searchin' My Soul by Vonda Shepard). The "Preview of Ally McBeal: The Official Guide" is extremely disappointing. There are only 2 clickable links on the table of contents - one taking you to a list of the episodes for season one and another taking you to a short excerpt from the book on the unisex bathroom. Hopefully with future releases of more Ally episodes on DVD Fox will step up and feature more extras.

Conclusion: In conclusion, the disc(s) has it's faults, but if you need a fix of Ally at any time of the day, this is the way to go. Fox could have included a couple more episodes and more extras, but took the easy way out. I liked how they grouped the episodes by theme, but was a little disappointed that they decided not to present the episodes in chronological order. As said above, hopefully the next Ally set will have more extras including (hopefully) commentaries and behind the scenes (especially since the 1/2 hour Ally show has been cancelled).
