Offspring : ''Americana''

List Price: Unknown

Review by Aaron Beierle | posted January 21, 2000 | E-mail the Author
In Short: One of the oddest things I've seen lately.

The Movie:

Everyone's had to watch home videos in their life, whether it be from the cousin's vacation or their friend's wedding. "Americana" is the collection of home videos from the California punk band The Offspring and I have to say that it ranks up there in my list of the weirdest, most random things I've ever had to witness. See people surf, do what looks like sleding down mountain roads, drink, smoke, ride their bikes, sit around the house, then ride their bikes some more. Occasionally, there is a short clip of one of their performances. All backed by music from the band. The picture quality is certainly less than thrilling - there's even a message at the begining of the feature that says "shot on 8mm video to ensure poor quality". That summarizes things pretty nicely. The sound is poor as well - a tinny, harsh sounding audio that certainly doesn't do anything much for the songs themselves. I suppose those who are interested in skateboarding might like some of this, but it cuts from subject to subject so quickly there's not much of anything for more than a few moments, and what there is doesn't have much point to it. Not too much to say about this video. I'm not a fan of the band, but I didn't learn anything new about them, nor did I have much of a clue what was happening.

All in all, for fans of the band only.
