You pigskin freaks know full well how NFL Films treats its material, so you can obviously expect great footage from the games, coupled with quality commentating and the special effects (freeze frames, slo-mo, etc.) we've come to expect from quality football analysis. Replay value will vary from person to person, but if you're a hardcore NFL enthusiast, this particular DVD feels like a no-brainer. You're getting 40 years of Super Bowl highlights in one handy disc for less than 20 bucks. The serious gridiron junkies might not like the skimpy treatment the early Bowls have gotten here, but hey, it's still a little piece of history, right?

Audio/Video: The 2-hour clip block is presented in a perfectly crisp fullscreen format, although obviously some of the older material looks its age. Audio comes in a robust Dolby Digital 2.0. English captions are also available.

Extras: Three extra featurettes are included: Jerome Bettis: Wired for Sound (6.5 minutes of the admirable Steelers running back both on and off the field), Sounds of Super Bowl XL (4 minutes of extra sound-bites from our more recent Super Bowl), and Joey Porter: Pittsburgh's Pride (10 minute interview segment/highlight reel from the linebacker's stellar career).

Final Thoughts

Two full hours of Super Bowl highlights, and it comes complete with a handy timeline that lets you pick the game you want. Until all the Super Bowls are made available in their entirety, packages like this one are more than good enough.
