IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE

Synopsis:

The 1950's were the breeding ground for some of the best science fiction ever produced. It also gave birth to some of the hokiest and most abysmal sci-fi and horror to date! With "It! The Terror From Beyond Space, the right mix of atmosphere and special effects were melded to create one of the best Sci-Fi, Horror features of the time. It's so good in fact that Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) used the same premise 21 years later and to phenomenal success! "When his crew is brutally murdered in a Mars expedition, Commander Carruthers becomes the prime suspect. Taken into custody and facing a court-martial back on Earth, he discovers that the real killer-a grotesque, slithering pigeon toed monster-has stowed away aboard their Earthbound vessel. But the indestructible creature has already begun a harrowing in-flight rampage, knocking off the members of the crew, one by one. Now, as the ship speeds home, the remaining crew must find some way to stop the unstoppable..."It".-back of the box spin. I couldn't have said it better myself.! While I did add the "pigeon toed" description, their blurb was dead on.

Audio/Video:

The audio is presented in the mono platform the film was released in back in 1958. The dialogue is all easily understood. There is a little background hiss throughout the audio track but, since that's the only way I have ever heard the film, it seemed to fit the tone as opposed to detracting from it. The video is presented in a full frame format which is evidently the way that this movie was originally released. The black and white presentation is really great with the images being very sharp and well detailed. There are scratches and fleckings of white in the print but they don't interfere with the enjoyment of the film.

Extras:

The only extra included is the film's trailer which I have to say is very good and actually a little scary as well!

Overall:

Of the crop of '50's Sci-fi hit or misses, It!, The Terror from Beyond Space is definitely a hit! Again, MGM has released another top-drawer film under its new "Midnite Movies" banner. While well over 40 years old, "It!" continues to please by still delivering a great film with some truly eerie moments to boot! For $9.99 you could do a lot worse! Highly Recommended
