Wild Wild West
Unfortunately it didn't lower them enough. Wild Wild West is a dog of a film. It takes forever to get the story going and when it finally does, it's not a story worth telling.
The acting in Wild Wild West is poor all the way around. Will Smith never really settles in to his role as Jim West and ends up playing stiff and forced. Salma Kayek is simply window dressing and is given nothing to work with, and Kenneth Brannagh is simply awful. The only ray of light comes from Kevin Kline, although his main role is pretty bad, does a great job as Ulysses S. Grant with an amazing striking resemblance to the past president.
I always find it difficult writing about the transfer on a bad movie, it's like asking Mrs. Lincoln what she thought of the play. In general Wild Wild West looks and sounds really good. There are a number of scenes which are fairly dark and thin, but overall a good transfer.
Admittedly my interest level was fairly low for the abundance of extras on the DVD. There are a slew of making of documentaries which look at many aspects of the making of the film, an audio commentary by director Barry Sonnenfeld, the music video for that catchy will Smith Tune and more DVD ROM stuff than I've seen on a DVD yet.
But in the end Wild Wild West is a bad movie, and although Warner Brothers made an admiral attempt at polishing it up for its DVD release, a dog is a dog.
