South Park Volume 5

The Movie:
Although I watched "South Park" often when it first came on, I gradually became less and less interested in it. Although there is still the occasional funny episode, the show just isn't as consistently sharp as it used to be. That's why I was so shocked at the feature film that came out last year. One of the funniest things I've seen in ages, the musical that the creators were able to come up with was a brilliant satire and wonderfully hilarious.
Like the rest of the editions so far that have been released to DVD, this edition includes 4 epsiodes of the show that are commerical-free. One of the funniest epsiodes that I've seen lately, "Flashbacks" is the highlight of the disc. When the kids are trapped on a bus about to fall off the edge of a cliff, they recall (from their own viewpoint) some of their early moments. "Summer Sucks", "The Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka" and "Conjoined Fetus Lady" are the other three episodes that round out the DVD. "Summer Sucks" and "Conjoined Fetus Lady" provide some good laughs, but I found "Mexican Staring Frog" to be a pretty uneventful episode, with a minor laugh or two.
The video quality is as good as can be expected from a television program. Images remai crisp and clear throughout, and don't suffer from any noticable problems. Colors are strong and vibrant, as well. Sound is very basic in nature and doesn't have any problems with distortion, etc.
Unfortunately, these "South Park" discs don't really include any extras. There is a short advertisement for Comedy Central shows, and each episode has an introduction from Parker and Stone. It would certainly have been nice to have a commentary from the duo for these episodes, but oh well. Moments of these episodes are very funny, and if you're a fan of the show, I'll certainly recommend this disc.
Grade: B-
