Features: Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, Dolby Surround, French Dolby Surround, "Making Of" Featurette, Cast and Crew Bios, Television Spots, Original Theatrical Trailer.

The Movie: Lake Placid, despite what it may seem like, is not a "monster movie" in the traditional sense. It is different that, in theory, this particular monster could very well exist. The monster in question is a 30 foot long Crocodile that migrates into a lake in Maine. After an incident where a research diver is bitten in half, a team is sent to investigate the incident, and figure out what to do. To me, the highlight of the entire movie was Betty White's character, "Mrs. Bickerman", who is hilarious.

Picture: The picture quality of this disc is good. It's not an anamorphic transfer, but none the less, the widescreen transfer is quite clear. Sound: The sound on this disc is nice, it "shows off" my DD5.1 system quite nicely, with lots of surround effects. It definitely takes advantage of a surround sound receiver.

The Extras: The extras on this disc were ok. I would have liked it better with director commentary and perhaps a bit more in depth "Making of" but the extras present weren't bad, and they were certainly better than a lot of discs which think the movie is enough.

Conclusion: Lake Placid is an interesting movie, although it is a bit graphic at times. If you like this kind of action/horror/monster movie, you'll like it, if not, try renting it. Overall I think it is a very enjoyable movie, and the disc itself has enough features to make it worth buying, although you definately shouldn't buy it for the extras.
