Short Takes

BANG!!! "Thong Underwear!"

BANG!!! "Pre-Cooked Bacon!"

BANG!!! "Artificial Fireplace Log!"

Comedian Rich Kronfeld's homegrown "Best of" disc is really more of a multimedia résumé with a stout infusion of his unique bizarro bend. Fans (and prospective employers) are greeted at the main menu by a raving maniac clutching a megaphone who blasts his .357 Magnum into the air while hollering random absurdities. It's Minneapolis public-access legend Dr. Sphincter, just one of Rich's alter egos, like snarky commentator Wally Hotvedt of Comedy Central's "Let's Bowl," or his inspired uber-geeks in Trekkies and CineSchlocker fave Six Days in Roswell. All of whom are showcased in hilarious clips such as a spoof of the Flock of Seagulls video "I Ran" featuring a younger, pastier Wally. There's also examples of Kronfeld's stage work, including his deliriously demented account of the strained relationship between veggie pitchmen "Green Giant and Little Sprout" (told with storybook-style illustrations). Don't overlook the Easter egg for a 40-once conclusion to the disc's red-hot intro. This self-produced DVD is distributed via the "Let's Bowl" website. Recommended.

2002, Approximately 60 minutes, Press clippings, Photos.
