Transambient
Moonshine movies have essentially put together a 94-minute version of MTV's Amp without the commercials. Artists such as Glimpse, Nigel Maudesky. Spiral3, 808 State, and others have combined with various VJs (Visual Jockeys) to create an entertaining and eye-catching disc.
Composed of 8 incredible songs, mixed with all types of video and stock footage, Transambient will surely please. All types of images abound in the footage. Computer graphics, flowers, microorganisms, explosions, and people are just a few of the scenes you'll find here. Rather than being played statically along with the music, the VJs have cut, looped and reversed the video to move with the beat. It's an amazing amount of work that really pays off when watching closely.
But, this disc would be perfect without even watching it. It's still a great collection of ambient music that would accompany party perfectly. The visuals add to the mix, but aren't even necessary.
Video: This is a mixed bag, mostly leaning to the low end. All the video is 4:3 and looks to have come from various bad sources. Everything from stock footage to low grade VHS footage looks to be included. Since it's not integral to the story (since there isn't one) is doesn't make a difference. Much like art, the texture and grain of the video add interest to it and it complements the music perfectly.
Audio: This is where the disc really shines. The music is mastered perfectly with a great digital stereo mix. There is little complaint, except that a 5.1 mix would have been nice. The audio sounds full and enveloping, perfect for this disc.
Extras: There are no extras on this disc.
Overall: It's definitely worth a purchase for fans of the genre that need visuals to go with their music. It would work well for any party or get together. If you want just the music, that would be great as well.
