WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

I never imagined I'd say this about an erotic film, but sometimes lesbian sex can go on for too long. Seduction Cinema's The Erotic Mirror contains a great deal of pleasing nudity and all-girl fondlings, but unfortunately the movie wears out its welcome fairly quickly.

The story follows lusciously blond Amy (Laurie Wallace) as she embarks on a romantic weekend with her typical-guy boyfriend Bill. Poor Bill is shoved aside the moment Amy finds a certain antique mirror at a second-hand store. See, the mirror holds a perpetually masturbating female ghost (Darian Caine), and whenever Amy gazes into said mirror, she is overcome with masturbatory lesbian desire. Soon enough, gorgeous girls (Misty Mundae, Esmerelda DeLarocca, AJ Khan) are entering the story for the flimsiest of reasons, only to ultimately be naked and licking and moaning under the sway of the magic masturbation mirror.

Amy's first lesbian encounter occurs at her female doctor's office. The office's nurse deserves special attention here. The actress who portrays her is simply an unbelievable sight. Her breasts are gargantuan globes of artificiality, so extreme in their silicon-bloated size that they are comical. When she removes her bra, the indentations of the strained fabric remain, red and enflamed, through the entire appalling scene. And take special note of this woman's lips, which have been pumped with collagen so severely that her face is a hideous mask of mock sensuality. At this point, you might just hysterically stab your TV's power button.

If you have the mettle to hold out, though, a lesbian threesome really starts things rocking at about the hour mark. When Amy removes her bikini bottom, a freshly shaven pubic region (previously unshaven) is revealed, providing a delicious surprise. Unfortunately, the clownish nurse appears in the background, robbing the scene of most of its eroticism. Still, I'll admit that this outdoor romp is a spectacle of juicy flesh and sensual movement. The plot proceeds to guide us through a lesbian foursome and a lesbian "fivesome," and even a lesbian "sixsome," but I was soon yawning.

There are a few reasons for my dwindling interest in a film that boasts many, many scenes of passionate gropings and groups of naked women writhing around on the ground. First, although six or seven willingly nude and nubile actresses are involved with the production, they are all rather boring in their passionate posturing. They moan and rub each other with all the erotic conviction of a bubble-headed coed struggling through a multiple-choice exam. Second, the movie is just too long. At over two hours in length, The Erotic Mirror could have used some serious editing. Third, it all feels so simulated. Watching softcore porn can be an exercise in frustration. Through most of the proceedings, I only wished that the film would suddenly become hardcore. Sure, a gaggle of naked women were flailing about on my screen, throatily screaming, and perhaps I should have counted my blessings, but throughout, they all seemed to be holding back, covering their secret spots with strategically placed palms. It's all just a great tease.

HOW'S IT LOOK?

Seduction Cinema presents The Erotic Mirror in a mediocre full-frame transfer of the film's original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The image contains all the usual flaws of a straight-to-video production, including smearing and aliasing. Also, the film has what appears to be an intentionally soft look, as if in an effort to make the video appear more like film. The soft effect seems also to have introduced ugly haloes around everything. All the nudity looks somewhat pale, as if the colors have been slightly washed out in the softness. Bright scenes have a distracting glare.

HOW'S IT SOUND?

The Dolby Digital 2.0 track is a fairly good presentation. At first, the front soundstage is distressingly center-focused, but as the number of girls gets higher, the moans start separating more and more widely, so that by the end, girls are screaming orgasmic frenzies all around you. Still, most of the dialog and incidental noise seems to have been captured by the microphone on the front of the camera.

WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

The DVD contains three video featurettes, and they're pretty hilarious.

In the 17-minute Behind-the-Scenes – Cast, the involved softcore-porn actresses discuss the artistic merits of their chosen genre. Interestingly—and provocatively—most of the actresses talk passionately about their love of the female body. One revelations learned herein is that the original title of the film was The Ghost in the Mirror.

In the 9-minute Behind-the-Scenes – On Set, the cast and crew joke around and laugh—frequently in states of undress. I've always found behind-the-scenes featurettes involving nudity and sex to be particularly enticing, sometimes more enticing than the actual feature, and though this one is brief, it delivers the goods. Just be prepared for some corny humor.

The 3-minute Behind-the-Scenes – Rehearsal is self-explanatory, studded with horrific acting and zero nudity.

Finally, as per usual on a Seduction Cinema release, you get a bunch of erotic trailers for other films, including Mummy Raider, Erotic Survivor 2, Play-Mate of the Apes, and, of course, the delectable Inga.

WHAT'S LEFT TO SAY?

I strongly recommend getting your hands on some real porn.
