Synopsis: Frozen tells the story of a Chinese performance artist obsessed with making his ultimate artistic statement. That being the artistic integrity of his own death. This obsession with death takes you through a series of repulsive "performance artist acts". Most notably the eating of bars of soap in an attempt to bring on the inevitable...vomiting! On the coldest day of the year in China, QUi Lei chooses to melt a block of ice with his semi clothed body so he'll die of hypothermia & thus making the ultimate in artistic statements. Frozen tells his story & that of another performance artists behind the still hanging, Bamboo curtain.

Audio: The disc claims a 5.1 Digital audio track but, it sounds more like a 2 channel mono presentation. As it is a chinese production, the audio is presented in the original Mandarin with English subs. The soundtrack is rather unremarkable & is really pretty lackluster.

Video: The video is a full screen presentation that suffers from poor video quality. Namely, grainy images & a fair to great degree of color discoloration as the film progresses.

Overall: The film boasts a "Banned in China" banner that's really rather unbelievable. Not becuase of the content rather the absurdity of the actual production. When I think of Performace artists I think of Blue Man Group & Laurie Anderson. While I don't claim to really fully understand all that they do, I can't recollect if I have ever been repulsed by their "art". Quite frankly, Frozen, turns my stomach. the "stars" of the film are the lengths to which these people will go to make "art". Watching somewhat vomit is not the least bit entertaining at least from my standpoint. That coupled with the lead character's desire to kill himself in the name of art is simply disturbing. I can't help but think that maybe, the English translation is not really dead on with the original Mandarin. Either way, this movie is a waste of time that comes off initially as an interesting approach to art.-Skip this turkey.
