JOHNNY

Synopsis:

Johnny is the leader of a group of squeegee kids who terrorize motorists for their spare change in exchange for an unsolicited window washing. When they happen upon a video camera the power he perceives through its lens changes Johnny from a simple thug to a power-hungry sociopathic menace that pushes his compatriots closer and closer to the edges of sanity. Even playing them off of one another for his own enjoyment. In the end, Johnny becomes the ringmaster and auteur for his three-ring circus of the dysfunctional. Bizarre but compelling, Johnny keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very end.

Audio/Video:

The audio is a bland DD2.0 that does not support the film at all. The dialogue is easily understood however the audio itself is not engaging in the least. A director's commentary is included that chronicles the filmmaking process and turns into a "how-to" instructional segment on independent film.

The video is presented in a widescreen format that is both grainy and poorly rendered. Artifacts aplenty, this transfer is only fair in its presentation.

Extras:

In addition to the commentary track, the director introduces the film and has included deleted scenes. The scenes played just like the finished print and could have stayed in the film.

Overall:

Johnny is a film that will have very limited appeal. Its subject matter is classic "Power corrupts-absolute power corrupts absolutely" material and its presentation here is well done. Recommended.
