Moonshine Movies has released the 6th disc in their AV:X series and it's another entry in their Mixmaster series. Similar to their Transambient series as well the videos were originally created for British audiences. For those not familiar with Moonshie or the Mixmasters series, it is the combination of dance music and DJ instumentation and visuals mixed by what are referred to as VJs.

Various artists such as DMX Krew, Wayward Soul, Allen TG and others combine their music with the visuals created by Vivian Wu and other VJs included on this set. More dance oriented than the Transambient series, the animation on the disc mixes well with the faster and upbeat music. There is also a better mix of original animation and and visuals compared to other sets in the series. That's not to say that all the visuals are perfect. Some of the animation is simplistic and not as entertaining, but overall there is constant movement combined with the music.

There are six song / video combinations included on this disc and each runs about 10 minutes. They range in tempo and style and each has their own unique animation accompaniment. Some use manipulated video and others use completely computer-generated imagery. The most entertaining is the vibrant green and pink Miami Vice silhouette cutouts that populate the beginning of the first video. Later videos use live footage that has been colored and manipulated and given a grungy feel. Overall it's a nice variety of music and imagery. While not the best in the series, I still prefer the Transambient disc, this is another strong entry for Moonshine is a well done series.

Video: This is a mixed bag, but better quality than previous releases. All the video is 4:3 and looks to have come from multiple sources, as detailed in the review. Everything from stock footage to complicated computer imagery is present and used well. Much like art, the texture and grain of the video add interest to it and it complements the music perfectly.

Audio: Like all of Moonshine's music releases this is where the disc really shines. The music is mastered perfectly with a great digital stereo mix. There is little complaint, except that a 5.1 mix would have been nice. The audio sounds full and enveloping, perfect for this disc.

Extras: There are short interviews with the DJs and VJs included. They are nothing revolutionary, but it's nice to put a face to the artists. Each gives a brief description of their history and inspiration. Also included is the trailer for Moonshine's Rave culture documentary American Massive: Sex, Drugs, Rave 'n Roll - Portrait of a New Generation. It looks similar to other films and documentaries that have been produced, but it looks interesting nonetheless.

Overall: It's another beautiful sounding and visually exciting entry in Moonshine's already impressive series. It's not the best of the series, bur nor will it disappoint fans of the genre.
