Nadia - The Prophecy Fulfilled
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water Vol. 10: THE PROPHECY FULFILLED- Episode #37- Emperor Neo: Captured by Gargoyle, Nadia is reunited with her lost bother Emperor Neo, who is under Gargoyles sway. As Gargoyle resurrects an ancient Atlantean battleship, the Red Noah, the New Nautilus crew try to revive the ships engines and fight Gargoyle, who positions his new battleship over Paris and makes demands to the world leaders to submit to his rule or suffer mass devastation. Episode #38- To the Sky: Captian Nemo launches a bold attack on the Red Noah and just manages to drop off the tank Gratan inside Gargoyle's massive battleship. Their duel takes them into space, and after Gargoyle employs a dangerous weapon, The Light of Babel, it will be up to the tiny tank to save them. Episode #39- Successor to the Stars: It is the final episode of the series... You think I'm going to write a synopsis of a final episode? You're nuts. No one should want that... Its the end, and a damn fine one. That's all I'll say.
Of course its a little odd that my first exposure to Nadia is through the final two volumes, missing a massive amount of character detail and various adventures setting up the story arc. Still, I was quite entertained, and the show caters to a young enough audience that it doesn't take a genius to catch up with the story. I think the show is probably best suitable for just barely pre-teens, maybe 12 and up. It has some minor sexual stuff, like ogling the girls in a bathtub, Jeans hormonal longing for Nadia, the kind of innocent first dalliances with attraction that slightly older kids will appreciate. The violence isn't really graphic, but it is dramatic, especially in these finale episodes where there is much seriousness (though still nicely balanced with some comedy) and some pretty brutal goings on. I really enjoyed it; which means, if I can enjoy it having missed all of those previous episodes, I can only imagine how much better the finale is for those that followed the story from the beginning
The DVD: A.D. VISION
Picture: Standard Full-Screen. Looks fine. Cel animation on a nice budget. There is some age and slight wear, minor, very minor, spots that come with cel work, (especially noticeable in the is digital age) but overall it looks fantastic, as good as it is likely to get.
Sound: English dub or original Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0 with optional yellow English subtitles. Good, clear, but minimal Stereo with the dialogue in the center and some fx and music filling out the sides. As far as translations, the dub says" Fire of my rage, deliver my retribution." whereas the subs state "Fire of my anger, deliver my divine punishment." In one instance when Gargoyles crew reacts to the New Nautilus surviving an attack, the Japanese "Oooo's" and "Aaahhh's" sound actually impressed, whereas the English dub of the same reaction makes the crew sound dumb.
Extras: Episode and Chapter Selection--- Nadia the Motion Picture preview--- Clean Opening and Closing credit animation.--- Text interviews with the English voice cast (Nemo, Electra, Grandis, Sanson, Hanson, Marie, King, and Gargoyle)--- ADV Previews for Power Stone, Princess Nine, Wild Arms, Steel Angel Kurumi, Excel Saga and Soul Hunter
Conclusion: Its the end. Obviously if you are curious about the series, this isn't where you want to start. But, if you've stuck with Nadia this far, the transfer satisfies, so go ahead and get the last and final volume and complete that collection.
