Beatles - Celebration

The DVD:
While looking around a local record store, I spotted a group of DVDs on sale for $5.99. Taking a look, I noticed titles from Hitchcock, lost episodes of "I Love Lucy" and "The Beatles Celebration", among other offerings. I grabbed the Beatles title, and with low expectations for a $5.99 title, I sat back to watch. It's certainly not great - there is none of the band's music (it's an unauthorized documentary), and the narration is a bit overdone, but there are some interesting pictures and other documents presented that take us thinly through the history of the band. The biggest problem is pace - after a while, the film becomes quite slow.
The quality of the DVD isn't great, nor did I expect it to be. The video quality varies throughout - although it's never unwatchable, it's a soft and occasionally hazy looking image. Some footage does manage to look better than other parts, though. The audio is similar to the video quality; it all depends on the footage. The narration sounds fine, but some of the interviews sound pretty thin and harsh.
The menus are pretty dull(although I was a little suprised that a $9.99 DVD even had menus). The bonus footage included is simply a little less than two minutes worth of old news footage of the band. I'll say this: for $5.99 I felt this wasn't a bad deal - I got what I expected out of it. Get much closer to the $9.99 retail price though, and I'd recommend passing it by.
