Ultimate UFO!
List Price: Unknown [Buy now and save at Linksynergy]
I know a couple of UFO buffs who have stacks of video tapes of footage recorded off of television. With Ultimate UFO, sifting through tape after tape for a particular piece of footage is no longer an issue. 5 and a half hours of footage, spanning all the way from the '50s up through 1998, have been compiled on this 2-disc set, with optional commentary from 2 UFO experts.
The Video: Obviously since most of this footage is ancient or sourced from camcorders, the video is unremarkable. Even the CG sequences before each decade, presumably designed especially for this set, looks overly compressed. Considering the source of the vast majority of the footage contained in Ultimate UFO!, the quality is acceptable.
The Audio: Ultimate UFO! has 2 audio tracks -- one with music and another with commentary from 2 prominent figures in the UFO community. I'd certainly recommend the commentary, as the music (which is in the commentary track at a lower level) is very distracting and often annoying.
The Extras: Aside from the commentary track, a trailer for the set along with a slew of documents on a DVD-ROM portion are provided.
Conclusion: Die-hard UFO fans will definitely want to purchase this, but casual buffs will only find Ultimate UFO! worth a rental. I was surprised to find that the set is very open-minded and doesn't take a firm stance on anything. Ultimate UFO! provides viewers with an incredible amount of information and invites them to come to their own conclusions.
Final Word: If the thought of having close to 6 hours of blurry objects floating in the sky sounds good to you, you can't go wrong with Ultimate UFO!
