The DVD:
There's been a lot of things I wouldn't have expected to come to DVD that have shown up. The last thing I've expected though, has finally appeared. Chris Elliot("There's Something About Mary")'s incredibly strange and occasionally hilarious sitcom has been brought to DVD courtesy of Rhino. The show stared Elliot as a 30 year-old paperboy named Chris who still lives with his parents. This disc includes 4 episodes; "The Prettiest Week Of My Life", "Spewey and Me", "Bored Straight" and "Girlfriend 2000". "Bored Straight", where Chris vows to reform a bunch of teen crooks, is incredibly funny. The other three are great as well, and as twisted as the rest of the series was.
Audio and video quality are what I'd expect from a TV show that's about 10 years old now. The video quality is consistently a little soft, but otherwise clear. The audio has no problems, either; simply dialogue-driven and always clear.
The extra features aren't terribly numerous, but do make for a couple of nice additions. First, we get a deleted chunk from "Girlfriend 2000" that lasts about 7 minutes. The other great addition on this disc is the ability to watch all but "Bored Straight" with the "laugh track" turned off.
"Get A Life" was a very funny show that didn't find an audience when it was first on TV, but has become a cult favorite. Fans of the show will be pleased with Rhino's presentation, and those who haven't seen the show will hopefully find it hilarious. I definitely hope that Rhino will release more editions of the series.
