Farscape 2.4
Farscape is a science fiction cable television series that chronicles the life of an astronaut, John Crichton, who's thrown into another part of the Universe by means of a wormhole. He appears in the middle of a space battle, accidentally killing the brother of an important alien commander just before taking refuge with a group of escaped prisoners of various species. As the series progresses, his life is turned upside down when he is given advanced knowledge of wormholes by an even more advanced alien race. This knowledge causes him to be hunted down by the dominant species of the region who think it will give them a strategic advantage against their enemies.
The Movie:
Farscape 2.4 is a two disc set from the show's second season that details the events in the life of John Crichton and crew over the span of 4 episodes. I'll list the episode synopsis for each to keep the spoilers down to a minimum. I've been a fan of the series since it first premiered and don't want to ruin anyone's fun by casually tossing around detailed episode data without good reason.
Beware Of Dog: A hostile beast on Moya attacks and poisons D'Argo. The crew must hunt down and capture the beast alive if Zhaan is to find the anti-venom and save D'Argo's life.
Won't Get Fooled Again: Crichton relives the launch of Farscape One, but instead of entering a wormhole, he blacks out and wakes up in a hospital bed on Earth. To his surprise, Aeryn appears as his doctor, and Zhaan shows up as his psychiatrist! Crichton knows someone must be manipulating his mind. But who?
The Locket: When her transport pod returns from investigating a strange mist, Aeryn emerges as an old woman. She insists she has aged 160 cycles since leaving Moya-she's had a husband, even a granddaughter. When Crichton follows Aeryn back to her planet, he also becomes trapped in time and unable to return to Moya.
The Ugly Truth: Crais invites Moya's crew onboard Talyn to discuss disarming the young gunship, replacing his weapons with a non-lethal, Plokavian "Dampening Net." But as the Plokavian ship approaches, Talyn surprises everyone by destroying it. Crais and Talyn starburst away as angry Plokavians capture Moya's crew to execute the guilty party.
Video: Once again, the picture looked great and was in full frame. No problems that I could notice.
Audio: You get a choice of either Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0. While the 5.1 sounds best, either was light years ahead of the sound I get on cable for the show.
Extra's: It had conceptual art, character background on D'Argo, a biography of Anthony Simcoe (D'Argo), a brief description of each alien met on each disc, a dictionary, 8 trailers for other ADV releases, alien race biographies, an audio commentary one "Won't Get Fooled Again", and 1 short, deleted scene.
Final Thoughts: If you are not familiar with this series yet like science fiction, this is a lot more interesting than most shows in the field. The characters are all flawed in some material manner that is a far cry from the usually politically correct characters seen on domestic shows which helps us keep guessing as to what will happen. In a sense, this is a major reason why the show always seems so fresh while so many other series are plastic with no heart. While I'd prefer more commentary tracks and other extra's, as a whole, the series is well represented on dvd. In about 2 weeks, the last 11 episodes of the 4th and final season will begin airing on the Sci-Fi Channel. I only hope that the producers secured enough bonus material for future dvd releases since they have been very well received and exceptionally well made.
