Movie: Glory Daze is a story about a group of four men on the last weekend before three of them graduate from college. The lead is played by Ben Affleck who, like all the others here, could've phoned in his part. The movie meandered around without any focus and it seemed to want to be a lot more clever than it really was. The humor rarely did more than make me smile and even then, few and far between.

The stereotypes portrayed in the movie, from Ben's middle class "angry white boy" to French Stewart's "professional student" to Sam Rockwell's "whipped" young man, show all the depth of a screenplay written on a single night, in order to turn in for class the next morning. Had any of them been interesting to begin with or shown any real growth, the movie might've been more than a curiosity of cameo's. Given the low budget look this one had, I can't imagine the performers wanting to acknowledge ever having been in this one. Of all the college or coming of age movies I've seen over the years, this one was among the worst as it seemed to have nothing to say and even the ride was boring.

Picture: The picture was presented in 1:85 anamorphic widescreen and looked to be recorded on a home movie camera more often than not. There was also a full screen version on the dvd but it was no better. It reminded me of the first version of Scarface on dvd in how bad it looked. The colors are not generally accurate and the dvd transfer was worst than some movies made decades ago.

Sound: The audio track was in stereo with most of the vocals properly placed if weakly presented. The soundtrack songs were actually pretty good although no one would likely argue any of the songs were crisp and clear. Punk music is supposed to sound bad and the quality here is fitting of the genre. Please note that the dvd cover promised a 5.1 track but none was present.

Extras: There were three trailers: Adaptation, Punch Drunk Love, and Stealing Harvard. That's a bit light for a movie with so many flaws and such a high price tag.

Final Thoughts: I have the feeling that this one will have a price drop within the year to well under $10, given the lack of extras and the great many technical flaws. It's one of those movies that people will buy for the cast yet feel let down when they see how poorly some current favorites fared back in the mid 90's. The acting was nearly as bad as the screenplay itself but the bottomline is a comedy without humor is a waste of time. Pass this one up.
