Movie:
Devil Lady 2: The Becoming is the further story about a fashion model who transforms into a monster when under great stress or in need of her monster powers. In the first dvd, Jun was forced to awaken her then unknown powers in order to save herself from another Beast. She was then coerced into becoming a hunter for an organization known only as the Human Alliance who's job is to kill the beasts who spin out of control and kill people or destroy property. Somehow, Jun still manages to remain under control of her powers but each episode seems to show her losing some of that control and the fear that she becomes the hunted is evident.
In this dvd's episodes, Jun fights a competitor in the fashion world who is also a Beast, a monster known as the Grim Reaper, learns that she is under surveillance by the Alliance, and forced to face her fear of losing all that makes her human. To say any more would be irresponsible for those who might like to rent or buy this dvd but keep in mind that Go Nagai's style doesn't translate very well from his usual Manga (Japanese comic book) to the much more expressive anime. There was a lot of untapped potential here and most of the blame should go to TMS since ADV was only releasing it for them.

Picture:
The picture was very dark which made sense considering the subject matter but it was not as clear as it should have been. The dvd transfer was decent enough in this full frame release but the limited scope animation grew bothersome after watching so many other recent anime releases where more effort was put into the picture. Horror anime of this nature is a more limited niche so it's understandable why better care didn't go into it originally but that doesn't make it less disappointing.

Sound:
The audio choices here were either a stereo Japanese track or stereo English. If desired, you could have subtitles for either the whole show or just the songs. In all, it was fairly average but the voice acting varied more than I cared for in terms of quality.

Extras:
The extras included three original drawings, a clean open and close, the original trailer and some trailers for other ADV releases. There was also a set of 4 collector cards in the dvd case.

Final Thoughts:
There was nudity and violence with some erotic overtones so it wouldn't be appropriate for children. ADV rates this as 17+ in order to keep it out of the hands of kids but much of the story seems weak enough that only adolescents will really get into it. It reminded me of the old Toho monster movies without the humor that made those fun to watch on Saturday afternoons. Aside from the limited quality animation style, the voice acting put me off as did the story. It seems to be building a few layers at a time but too slow on the secondary threads while the primary story is devoted to the fight scenes. I'll try and get ahold of the first dvd which may make the later releases more interesting to watch but as a stand alone dvd, this one is a rental at best.
